FEBRUARY 2013 - REED HARVESTING ON UPPER BOAT POND.

As part of the second phase of improvements to the 'Green Spaces' along the Ebbw Fach Trail, reed cutting has taken place on the Upper Boat Pond. The photograph to the left, taken in July 2012, shows the extent of the reed 'invasion' into the pond, and on a bitterly cold February morning, an operator from Aquaclear Water Management arrived with a Truxor Harvester and for several hours to remove the excessive reed growth.

Our thanks to John Hillier for capturing the photographs below, in very uncomfortable weather conditions, there is also a link to the photographs displayed on Johns' Woodlands Facebook page and to the Aquaclear website for detailed information on the work they do.

JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2013 - ENTRANCE GATES REPAINTED

The site entrance gates which were installed in 2007, were in need of repainting, and Afan Landscapes came on site in January to begin this work.

AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER 2013 - GROUNDWORKS PROJECT.

The objective was to improve the entrance around the Highlands Road entrance, we were part funded by Groundworks to support our application for the Community Green Flag award.

The photographs below show what was achieved by the effforts of several of the Society Directors.

Approximately 100 yards of pathway was enhanced from the Highlands Road Entrance Road running along the fence towards Blaen Cendl.

The grass alongside the pathway from Highlands Gate was also  cut with the lawnmower funded by Groundworks and Environment wales.

The photograph of the information panel shows off our recently awarded Community Green Flag Award.

Many thanks to Carillon for donating the wood chip, and to Peter F for the donation of the aggregate.

Carillion is involved in the dualling of the A465 Heads of the Valleys road from Tredegar to Brynamwr, please click on the link below, to find out more about how they are always keen to support the communities in which we work.
